CAPTAIN DOUG HISLOP PARK

Public BBQ

Captain Doug Hislop Park proved to be one of those delightful riverside discoveries that Queensland does so well. Named after a heroic tugboat captain who twice saved Brisbane River infrastructure during floods, this compact park delivers far more than its modest size suggests. The boat ramp provides excellent access for heading downriver toward the port, while the shaded BBQ area offers respite from the Queensland sun with convenient water taps nearby. The fishing here varies dramatically with the tides - check them first, as low tide leaves you staring at dry riverbed rather than promising water. When conditions align, though, the angling proves quite decent. The park draws a pleasant mix of walkers, cyclists, and joggers, plus the occasional twitcher (birdwatcher) - worth noting if you're seeking perfect tranquillity. The river views alone justify the visit, and it makes for an excellent dog walk. While compact, this shady spot combines practical amenities with genuine charm, making it ideal for a quick barbecue or launching point for river adventures.
